Pasadena Rideshare Accident Attorneys

Pasadena Uber & Lyft Accident Lawyer

Pasadena has freeways and still runs on surface streets. The 110 stops at Glenarm and the 134 ends where it meets the 210.

Where you were sitting sets what you can claim. Passenger, rideshare driver and third party are separate coverage positions, and app status picks the insurer.

Can I Make a Claim After an Uber or Lyft Accident in Pasadena?

Possibly. It turns on fault, on which of the three claimant positions you occupied, on what the app was doing at impact, and on what the injuries turn out to need.

App status comes first, because it moves a claim between two unrelated insurance frameworks. Uber and Lyft hold the trip records that settle it, and those records outlast anyone’s memory of the ride.

Then where it happened. Pasadena police cover the city streets and the Highway Patrol covers the 210 and the 134. On the 110 the boundary falls at Glenarm Street, worth pinning down early.

Uber & Lyft Accidents in Pasadena

The Arroyo Seco Parkway is the odd one. Signed SR-110, it was the first freeway in the western United States, and it joins nothing at its northern end. State maintenance stops at Glenarm Street, so drivers coming up from downtown Los Angeles leave the freeway at a set of traffic lights and finish on Pasadena streets.

The other two behave normally. I-210 crosses the city and turns east-west where SR-134 meets it, and the 134 ends there, so Glendale and Burbank traffic is pushed onto the 210. Colorado Boulevard, Lake Avenue, Fair Oaks Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard carry what is left.

The Metro A Line runs through with six stations, Fillmore out to Sierra Madre Villa, and since 2023 it carries straight through downtown Los Angeles. Many local trips are short hops to a platform. On parade days the city closes Colorado Boulevard, tows from the route, and tells drivers not to trust GPS.

Why the Uber or Lyft Driver's App Status Matters

California sets rideshare insurance requirements by app status, in Public Utilities Code section 5433.

App off

Personal policy

Not working. The driver’s own auto policy is generally the starting framework.

App on, no ride accepted

Reduced commercial cover

Waiting for a request. $50,000 per person, $100,000 per incident, $30,000 property, plus a $200,000 excess layer.

Ride accepted onward

$1 million primary

$1,000,000 combined for injury, death and property damage, acceptance to drop-off.

Two details decide cases. The $1 million attaches on acceptance, not at pickup. The uninsured motorist cover beside it, $60,000 per person and $300,000 per incident, runs only while a passenger is aboard.

A policy limit is a ceiling, not a valuation. Learn how California rideshare insurance works →

Who Can Be Responsible for a Pasadena Rideshare Accident?

Most of these will not apply. Evidence decides.

The Uber or Lyft driver

How they drove, and what the app showed.

Another motorist

Often the one actually at fault.

The vehicle owner

Sometimes a different person entirely.

An employer or business

If another driver was working.

A vehicle or component manufacturer

Where a defect fits.

A public entity

Roadway facts, shorter deadline.

Another responsible person or entity

Whoever the evidence reaches.

Uber and Lyft are rarely answerable for a driver’s negligence, though their cover may respond.

What Compensation May Be Available?

  • Medical expenses
  • Future medical care
  • Lost income
  • Reduced earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Property damage
  • Other supported losses

The number follows the proof: injury, treatment, the care still ahead, and the income lost.

How Burg & Brock Investigates a Rideshare Accident

Each step decides what the next one has to prove.

01

Identify claimant type

Passenger, driver or third party.

02

Determine app and trip status

From platform records, not roadside accounts.

03

Preserve relevant evidence

Trip and vehicle data, before it ages out.

04

Determine liability

Which parties actually contributed.

05

Identify applicable insurance

Every policy capable of responding.

06

Document injuries and losses, then pursue the claim

Negotiation first, suit if needed.

2 years*

Many California personal injury lawsuits generally have a two-year limitation period from the date of injury.

*Not a universal deadline. A claim against a public entity generally must be presented within six months, whether that is the city, the county, or the state as the authority for the 210 and the 134.

Pasadena Rideshare Accident FAQs

Which insurance applies after an Uber or Lyft crash in Pasadena?

App status decides. App off, the personal policy is generally the framework. Waiting for a request brings a reduced commercial layer. From acceptance to drop-off, a $1,000,000 primary framework can apply.

I was a passenger. What does that change?

It puts you in the clearest of the three positions, because the trip was running. Fault still has to be proved, and the other motorist’s insurer may answer too.

I was driving for Uber when I was hit. What can I claim?

You were working, so the app defines the window you were in. Waiting on Lake Avenue for a request is a different insurance period from carrying a rider.

An Uber driver hit my car. Does app status still matter?

It is the whole coverage question for you. The higher band attaches when the driver accepts, so an empty car heading toward a pickup already sits inside it.

My crash happened where the 110 ends at Glenarm. Does that matter?

It can. The freeway stops there and city streets begin, so the responding agency and the report you end up relying on may differ by a block or two.
