Uber & Lyft Accident Lawyers in California
The insurance rules after a rideshare crash are the same across California. Almost nothing else is. Which agency writes your collision report, which office takes a claim if a public body is involved, and how long you have before that door closes all change from one city to the next.
The pages below cover the practical differences where we do the most rideshare work. Burg & Brock represents injured people throughout the state, not only in the cities listed here.

Choose Your City
Each page answers the same question for its own city: who may be responsible, which insurance may apply, and what you should do next.

Why the City Matters After a Rideshare Crash
Two things are fixed statewide. Rideshare insurance is set by app status under Public Utilities Code section 5433, and an ordinary injury claim against another driver runs for two years.
What moves is everything procedural. A city police department, a county sheriff and the Highway Patrol each cover different roads, and asking the wrong one for your report can cost weeks. If a public body had any part in the crash, whether a city vehicle, a signal or a roadway defect, the claim goes to that specific entity on its own form, and the window is six months rather than two years under Government Code section 911.2.
The differences are not small. San Diego police do not write a report for every collision, and a crash on the 5, the 8, the 15 or the 163 belongs to the Highway Patrol even inside the city. Sacramento accepts claims against the city at one office only, and counts a claim as filed on the day it arrives rather than the day you post it. In Bakersfield the same crash can belong to the city, the county or the state depending on which road you were on. Beverly Hills has its own police force and its own city hall despite sitting inside Los Angeles.
Filing with the wrong agency does not stop that clock. It is the most avoidable way a good claim gets lost, and it is the reason these pages exist at city level rather than as one page for the whole state.
