Fatal Bicycle Accident in Huntington Beach Hit-and-Run Crash
A fatal bicycle accident in Huntington Beach left one cyclist dead and two others seriously injured early Monday morning after a suspected hit-and-run driver struck them along Pacific Coast Highway.
Deadly Crash on Pacific Coast Highway and Newland Street
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD), officers responded to the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Newland Street around 6:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a collision involving three bicyclists and a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found three adult male cyclists lying in the roadway. One victim tragically died at the scene, while the other two were rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
Suspect Arrested for Felony Hit-and-Run and Manslaughter
Police identified the driver as 43-year-old Amber Calderon of Long Beach, who was arrested approximately half a mile from the crash site. Authorities say Calderon was driving a 2006 gold Mercedes E-Class that struck the cyclists riding in the bike lane.
She now faces multiple charges, including felony hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter, and possession of narcotics.
Witnesses reported that the bicyclists were “hit from behind” by the vehicle. Some residents noted foggy conditions along PCH that morning, which may have contributed to reduced visibility.
Ongoing Investigation
HBPD investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fatal bicycle accident and whether driver impairment, distraction, or other factors played a role.
